Final Days Of Summer

It feels weird to be typing that when it's only the last few days of July, but the county here starts school early, so we're going to go ahead and start, too. School starts on Monday, so we spent our last week around here, having some fun with  the whole family.

Henry is pretty close to mastering the girls' Kindles. It's a little scary and a little wonderful, all at the same time.

This week was the last time we met for our Summer Bible study, doing the book of Hosea. We've done this two summers in a row now, and it's become a really precious time to me. I send an email out to as many ladies as I can think, and whoever can come, comes! This book on Hosea was not exactly what I expected, but it was a great challenge for how we view ourselves versus how God views us, and what idols have crept into our lives that have robbed us of our true relationship with God.

Our girls have had a pretty easy life when it comes to chores. Some of that is because of my Type-A personality...it can just be easier to have the cleaning done the way I want it done. And some of it is just because of laziness...not wanting to have to teach the girls how to do the chores correctly, etc.

Steve and I wanted to use the start of school as a time when we also instituted some chores for them. In the morning, each of them have to make their beds, and during the day, each of them have a set "chore time" when Bella will set the table and Evelyn will throw a load of laundry in the machine.
On Fridays, they each wash one of our bathrooms...

Teaching them to wash the bathroom was definitely an experience. I'm going to have to really work on patience. Especially with Evelyn. That's just all I can say about it for now...

Evelyn had been asking for a tea party for a couple of days now, so we put Henry down for a nap, and carried some snacks outside.

Babies and pool tricks are the best!

I love Henry's face when he plays with Steve.

Oh! And our Homeschool Expo! This past weekend, Steve and I took a much-needed night away, and combined it with stopping by a homeschool expo that was happening downtown. It was so good to get away! Just being able to walk around the homeschool vendors and talk about different ideas without any interruptions seemed like a mini-vacation. We found a History curriculum that Whitney had told me about, and got to look at a ton of fun books! Next year, I would definitely save up and bring more cash along; there were so many things I wanted to buy!

On Friday night, we slept 11 straight hours, but somehow that left us rested AND a little slap-happy. We sat through one session, and barely kept a straight face. But the entire weekend was a great little escape for us, and a chance to reconnect before Steve started traveling again.

Before Steve left on Sunday night, Bella colored him a picture to take along. She drew him as a cowboy; how sweet is that? Bella loves and adores horses and everything that goes along with them, so for her to draw Steve as a cowboy, and draw a little scene of them riding together, was the biggest token of love that she could have shown.
